Application Guidelines and Interpretation Notes – Well Suspension and Abandonment

On February 15, 2021, the Regulator issued Application Guidelines and Interpretation Notes – Well Suspension and Abandonment (Guidelines) under section 18 of the Oil and Gas Operations Act (OGOA).  The Guidelines are effective February 15, 2021 and clarify the process for obtaining regulatory approval to suspend or abandon a well.
The Office of the Regulator of Oil and Gas Operations (OROGO) has also published a Summary of Public Engagement Results, which captures the feedback received during the public engagement process for the draft Guidelines and how it was considered in the final version of the Guidelines.
